As believers, we need be in discipling relationships so that we can grow more in our walk with Christ. The times of suffering in Paul's life were used to help build his faith in Christ, and the more we immerse ourselves in God's Word, the more we can trust in God's character and His promises in difficult days.

    The Danger of Deceptive Disciples
    Series: UNBOUND
As Paul continued in his letter to Timothy, he warned him to be aware of the deceptive disciples that had crept into the church. These people appeared to be godly men, but were practicing sin and leading people astray. Churches are often known for judging people outside of the church, but Scripture tells us to examine within the church and practice church discipline, when necessary. When we lovingly speak truth into each others' lives, we will help keep the church from being led away by false teachers. We must trust God's providence that even though people may try to lead others away from sound doctrine, that they will not have the final victory in light of eternity. God's purpose for the Church will come to pass.
    Scripture: II Timothy 3:1-9

    A Call To Holiness
    Series: UNBOUND
If we desire to be useful for the Kingdom of God, we must be intentional to pursue holiness. Paul challenged Timothy to flee prideful, arrogant, youthful passions and make every effort to seek Jesus and imitate His life and love for others.   As we are made more like Jesus, we will be more effective in our witness. Let us also pray that God would lead many to repentance.
    Scripture: II Timothy 2:20-26

    The Fight Against False Teaching
    Series: UNBOUND
While Timothy was ministering in Ephesus, he met opposition from false teachers from within the church. Paul instructed Timothy to help his congregation fight against false teaching by avoiding unhealthy debate, handling God's Word carefully, avoiding wordy speculation, and trusting God's firm foundation. May we do our best to work hard in studying God's Word that we may know God as He has revealed Himself in Scripture. Let us hold fast to right doctrine and not be swayed by false teachers, so we can effectively disciple others and point them closer to Jesus Christ.
    Scripture: II Timothy 2:14-19

    How To Endure
    Series: UNBOUND
Paul knew that endurance could only be possible if believers would remember Jesus and rely on His Word. This leads us to respond to God's faithfulness. When see the greatness of God's faithfulness throughout His Word, we grow a deeper love for our Triune God. May we see Jesus' faithfulness and be encouraged to continue the works He's called us to accomplish for His Name's sake.

    Guard the Gospel
    Series: UNBOUND
Paul knew the importance of guarding the gospel. Some false teachers had arisen in the church at Ephesus, where Timothy ministered, and Paul encouraged Timothy to make sure that he stood firm in the truth of God's Word. He explained that depending on God's grace, effective discipleship, and discipline would help the people of God focus on Jesus and accomplish all that God desired. May we, through God's grace, work hard to guard the gospel and be changed to be more like Jesus each day.
    Scripture: II Timothy 2:1-7

    Unashamed
    Series: UNBOUND
Paul endured much suffering for the sake of the gospel. As he wrote to Timothy from prison, he warned him to expect persecution for his faith but urged him to remain unashamed of the gospel. He also encouraged Timothy to look to Jesus and remember that God had given him the power to continue the Kingdom work. Paul challenged Timothy to observe the faithfulness of others and take heart that he wasn't alone. Even though we should expect some level of suffering for the gospel, may we look to Christ's power and the faithfulness of others to help encourage us to be faithful in the work God has called us to do and be unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
    Scripture: II Timothy 1:8-18

    The Courage To Carry On
    Series: UNBOUND
In Paul's letter to Timothy, he wanted to encourage Timothy to continue in the work God called him to do. Paul challenged Timothy to look on God's past faithfulness, to lean on the prayers of others, and to fan the flame with the truth of God's Word. May we be encouraged by those same words and may we seek Jesus in His Word and trust that He will sustain us for the works He has for us.

    Faith That Endures
The author of Hebrews explains the reality that there are people that claim to follow Jesus, but fall away from the faith. However, he does not suggest that one can lose his or her salvation. What he does say is that Jesus Christ keeps His true followers from falling away, and He uses the local church to help lead His people on the path of sanctification. May we watch our hearts closely, exhort one another, and keep our eyes on Jesus, so that we may finish well.
    Scripture: Hebrews 3:12-19
