Series: UNBOUND
At the end of Paul's life, many of his closest friends abandoned him. His only assurance was in the presence of God by his side. He trusted God to deal with those had wronged him and he forgave those who deserted him. In all of it, he had faith that the Lord Jesus Christ had faithfully sustained him. May we have that same confidence in God to work in our lives and keep us from stumbling, and may we keep running the race He has set before us.
Scripture: II Timothy 4:9-22

    Carry On
    Series: UNBOUND
Paul knew his life was coming to end, so he challenged Timothy to carry the torch and follow his example. During his life, Paul endured much hardship, but he persevered to the end. He held onto the hope of seeing Jesus, and that hope in the finished work of Christ on the cross helped sustain him throughout his ministry. This same challenge is given to all of us. May we fight the good fight and accomplish all the works Christ has for us, namely spreading the Good New of Jesus. Scripture: II Timothy 4:5-8

    The Preserving Power of Preaching
    Series: UNBOUND
In Paul's final words to Timothy, he gave him a weighty command to preach the word at all times. During Timothy's day, many people sought out teachers that would tell them only what they wanted to hear, not what they needed to hear. We can easily fall into that trap and, as a result, wander off into false teachings. May we diligently seek Jesus through studying His Word, and may we be open and willing to accept correction knowing that it's making us more like Jesus.
    Scripture: II Timothy 4:1-4

    The Danger of Deceptive Disciples
    Series: UNBOUND
As Paul continued in his letter to Timothy, he warned him to be aware of the deceptive disciples that had crept into the church. These people appeared to be godly men, but were practicing sin and leading people astray. Churches are often known for judging people outside of the church, but Scripture tells us to examine within the church and practice church discipline, when necessary. When we lovingly speak truth into each others' lives, we will help keep the church from being led away by false teachers. We must trust God's providence that even though people may try to lead others away from sound doctrine, that they will not have the final victory in light of eternity. God's purpose for the Church will come to pass.

    The Fight Against False Teaching
    Series: UNBOUND
While Timothy was ministering in Ephesus, he met opposition from false teachers from within the church. Paul instructed Timothy to help his congregation fight against false teaching by avoiding unhealthy debate, handling God's Word carefully, avoiding wordy speculation, and trusting God's firm foundation. May we do our best to work hard in studying God's Word that we may know God as He has revealed Himself in Scripture. Let us hold fast to right doctrine and not be swayed by false teachers, so we can effectively disciple others and point them closer to Jesus Christ.

    Unashamed
    Series: UNBOUND
Paul endured much suffering for the sake of the gospel. As he wrote to Timothy from prison, he warned him to expect persecution for his faith but urged him to remain unashamed of the gospel. He also encouraged Timothy to look to Jesus and remember that God had given him the power to continue the Kingdom work. Paul challenged Timothy to observe the faithfulness of others and take heart that he wasn't alone. Even though we should expect some level of suffering for the gospel, may we look to Christ's power and the faithfulness of others to help encourage us to be faithful in the work God has called us to do and be unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
    Scripture: II Timothy 1:8-18
